Grey’s Anatomy Nominated for GLAAD’s Outstanding Drama Award

Calzona has long been one of our favorite on-screen romances. And now, Grey’s Anatomy is being honored with a GLAAD nomination for Outstanding Drama Series, presumably thanks to Grey’s fantastic handling of a successful on-screen lesbian marriage.

We’ll never forget the wedding between Callie (Sara Ramirez) and Arizona (Jessica Capshaw), with both brides wearing gorgeous white dresses. The whole episode seemed incredibly progressive and current.

As is the couple’s relationship with Mark (Eric Dane), Sofia’s baby daddy. Instead of an awkward rendition of Three’s Company, the show got a few threesome jokes out of the way early, and now the focus is on making things work. Which they (almost) do.

We’ll be cheering for you, Grey’s!

2012 GLAAD Media Award Nominations Announced: Glee vs. Modern Family — and More!

An award nomination? Now that's something to be GLAAD about!

Modern Family, Glee, and Pretty Little Liars are among the nominees for the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation’s 23rd Annual GLAAD Media Awards.

Pretty Little Liars will face off against Grey’s Anatomy, Degrassi, Shameless, and Torchwood: Miracle Day for Outstanding Drama Series. Meanwhile, in the category of Outstanding Comedy Series, Glee and Modern Family are up against Happy Endings, The Big C, and Exes and Ohs.

The Outstanding Reality Program pits Dancing With the Stars, The Glee Project, The Real L Word, The Voice, and Girls Who Like Boys Who Like Boys against each other.

"This year's nominees enlighten and entertain, while spotlighting the diversity of our community," said GLAAD’s acting president Mike Thompson. "Viewers know that LGBT characters and stories are simply natural extensions of, and glimpses into, their own experiences from across America."

A full list of all the nominations is available here. Awards will be presented in New York on March 24, in Los Angeles on April 21, and in San Francisco on June 2. Which shows do you hope come away victorious?
