Is There Room for Another Reality TV Singing Competition? Weigh In!

The X Factor, The Voice, American Idol, Duets — all of ‘em have their shticks. One’s primary focus is purely based on vocal talent and not looks; one or two have the celebrity judges act as mentors, etc. But when you really think about it, they all could get boiled down to one thing: They’re all reality TV singing competitions. And with all of these currently on the air, recently wrapped or in progress, news of yet another singing competition was just announced. Wha-?!

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Nick Lachey will serve as host (as he did for The Sing-Off) of NBC’s upcoming singing competition, The Winner Is, “which will pit dueling contestants of all ages and configurations against one another to be judged by a studio audience.”

So, keeping in mind all of the previously mentioned shows, and even others that include singing like America’s Got Talent, we want you to tell us: Is there room for another reality TV singing competition? Or are there enough as it is? Weigh in!

Dear Teen: Ed Sheeran Video Messages a Fan!

Hey Burries! Earlier this season on Dear Teen, we surprised one very lucky Ed Sheeran fan backstage at one of his L.A. concerts, and now we’ve got something special for yet another Ed fan! Lacy sent a letter to us, talking about how Ed’s music has helped her through some hard times, especially since her mother was recently diagnosed with cancer. We found the letter so touching, we just had to tell Ed about it, and he not only read the letter, but filmed her a special video message. We sat down with Lacy on Skype and talked a little bit about her struggle and showed her the Ed video — she was definitely surprised! He even personalized and signed a copy of his + album for her. So cool!

Watch the awesome video above, and leave a comment or email us at dearteen@teen.com telling us which celeb you’re dying to meet and make sure you subscribe to Teen so you don’t miss an episode! Byeeeeee!

Dane DeHaan Cast as Harry Osborn in ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ Sequel

Twitter (@MarcW)

Major fake-out. Toward the end of November, outlets suggested that Sam Claflin, Eddie Redmayne, Boyd Holbrook and Douglas Booth were testing for the role of Harry Osborn in the upcoming sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man. But, as it turns out, none of the aforementioned actors were selected for the part. Instead, Dane DeHaan (Lawless, Chronicle) is set to play Peter Parker’s best friend.

Director Marc Webb confirms via a simple tweet: “Meet Harry Osborn. @danedehaan.”

If you check out our friends at Just Jared Jr., you’ll notice Dane leaving a screen test with Andrew Garfield, who’s set to reprise his role as Spidey in #2. What’s not known, however, is the amount of screen time Andrew’s on- and off-screen girlfriend, Emma Stone, will get in the second installment, as her character, Gwen Stacy, gets the axe in the comic book series.

Dane’s confirmation comes after news that Shailene Woodley would be joining the Spider-Man cast as Peter Parker’s other love interest, Mary Jane Watson (formerly played by Kirsten Dunst in the Tobey Maguire-led franchise). Meanwhile, you can expect the last guy who played Harry Osborn, James Franco, on the big screen once again in 2013′s Oz: The Great and Powerful, portraying the infamous Wizard himself.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is slated for 2014. What do you think of the casting decisions so far? Who would you have picked to replace James Franco? And are you upset to see Emma’s character get the boot? Spill!
