Dane DeHaan Cast as Harry Osborn in ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ Sequel

Twitter (@MarcW)

Major fake-out. Toward the end of November, outlets suggested that Sam Claflin, Eddie Redmayne, Boyd Holbrook and Douglas Booth were testing for the role of Harry Osborn in the upcoming sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man. But, as it turns out, none of the aforementioned actors were selected for the part. Instead, Dane DeHaan (Lawless, Chronicle) is set to play Peter Parker’s best friend.

Director Marc Webb confirms via a simple tweet: “Meet Harry Osborn. @danedehaan.”

If you check out our friends at Just Jared Jr., you’ll notice Dane leaving a screen test with Andrew Garfield, who’s set to reprise his role as Spidey in #2. What’s not known, however, is the amount of screen time Andrew’s on- and off-screen girlfriend, Emma Stone, will get in the second installment, as her character, Gwen Stacy, gets the axe in the comic book series.

Dane’s confirmation comes after news that Shailene Woodley would be joining the Spider-Man cast as Peter Parker’s other love interest, Mary Jane Watson (formerly played by Kirsten Dunst in the Tobey Maguire-led franchise). Meanwhile, you can expect the last guy who played Harry Osborn, James Franco, on the big screen once again in 2013′s Oz: The Great and Powerful, portraying the infamous Wizard himself.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is slated for 2014. What do you think of the casting decisions so far? Who would you have picked to replace James Franco? And are you upset to see Emma’s character get the boot? Spill!

Lucy Hale Covers 'Nylon' December 2012/January 2013

Lucy Hale rocks the preppy chic look on the December 2012/January 2013 cover of Nylon mag.

The 23-year-old Pretty Little Liars actress chatted about the hit ABC Family show, putting out an album, and more. Check it:

On relationships: “I’ve had to really put things in check and be, like, This is who I need in my life. I’m trying to weed out.[...]What’s the expression? ‘If it doesn’t better you or grow you or make you happy, why are you in the situation?’ Every relationship I’ve had, I’ve learned something good and positive. I’m 23. I’m a woman, but I’m not fully the person that I think I will be.”

On PLL fervent fans: “[Shay Mitchell and I] got to the airport in Brazil and there were like 500 people there with signs and gifts. How did they even know we were coming?”

On making an album: “It’s absolutely terrifying. You only get one album. You only get one single. You get one shot in music. But I have a million different dreams. Why can’t I go out and try to achieve them all? Who are you to say I can’t?”

On the projects she’d like to take on next: “I’m searching for something eye-opening. I love movies like 500 Days of Summer and Juno. Something offbeat without the glamour and the makeup and the clothing.”
