So if you haven’t heard about the Myan calendar running out in 2012 and the world ending, don’t read any further. We wouldn’t want to be the ones to break it to you that the ancient civilization predicted the world will end on December 21, 2012. And whether you believe it or not, it’s still kinda fun to think about what you would do if you knew the world was going to end. We would go shopping — naturally!
But we’re not talking about shopping at our usual joints — like H&M and Forever 21. We’re talking about the kind of shopping you can do only when the world is ending with a credit card that you’ll never have to pay off. Hey — if we’re gonna die, we’re gonna do it in style! Here’s what each of the Teen.com eds would spend their last-minute cash (ha!) on:
Haley, Associate Editor: All the LBDs I have in my closet right now are like, no more than $30 and rip after two wears. That’s why I’d invest in the perfect little black dress from Alexander McQueen. This one will never go out of style and is so worth the $3,000 price tag, right?
But until then, I’ll settle for black party dresses like this, which everyone can afford at $27.80!
Dan, Deputy Editor: I’m all about amazing accessories, so shoes, bags, wallets…which explains why I’m always so broke. So if doomsday was near, I’d head straight to Barney’s and buy this bad boy: a Brera Orologi watch. It’s insane! And for good reason…it costs $750!!!
Kristen, Editorial Intern: If the world was ending, I would head straight over to Burberry and pick up this amaze trench coat like it was no big deal. That way I’d have something to wear when the floods come. $3,000 for a coat? Whatevs!
Until then, I’ll have to settle for this trench from Macy’s. It really isn’t the same without the striped collar and yellow belt now, is it?
Jessica, Editorial Assistant (gURL.com): If I knew the world was ending and I would never have to save money again, I would definitely buy myself a Chanel purse. They're gorgeous, not to mention classic and glamorous, and I can't let myself die without owning one!
But I guess that for now, since I'd feel way too guilty spending thousands on a handbag, I'll settle for one of these:
Kaitlin, Editorial Assistant (Teen.com): If I knew the world was seriously coming to an end, then I'd totally consider pulling a Carrie Bradshaw and buying myself a hot pair of Manolo Blahniks. No matter what she wore (or how much her clingy personality always rubbed me the wrong way), Carrie never failed to look beyond chic with her high-priced heels.
But since there's no sign of an apocalypse just yet, I usually settle for a cutesy pair of Steve Maddens or Chinese Laundry strappy sandals, which can be just as cute (eh) for only a fraction of the price.
